Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Chris Archer and Cincinnati Reds outfielder Yasiel Puig were hit with multi-game suspensions on Tuesday for their part in an ugly bench-clearing brawl at the weekend. Major League Baseball said in a statement Archer had been suspended for five games and given an undisclosed fine. Puig was hit with a two-game ban and a fine, starting later Tuesday. The trouble started in the fourth inning when Pirates starter Chris Archer threw his first pitch behind the waist of Derek Dietrich. His previous time up, Dietrich dropped the bat and stood to admire his 436-foot home run clear the fence atop the Clemente Wall and bounce into the Allegheny River. Pittsburgh's Josh Bell won an impromptu home run derby with a 474-foot solo blast and added an RBI double Sunday as the Pirates topped the visiting Cincinnati Reds 7-5 for a sweep of a four-game series. If Reds fans didn't love Yasiel Puig already, Sunday's matinee in Pittsburgh probably won them over. In a fracas that began with Derek Dietrich admiring his mammoth second inning home run, and continued with Chris Archer throwing behind him in his next at-bat, it was Puig who became a star in Cincinnati by rushing out of the dugout and attempting to fight all of Pittsburgh by himself. Just look at the beautiful image the bench-clearing dust-up gave us: Reds manager David Bell, Puig, Amir Garrett, Keone Kela and Felipe Vázquez were all ejected when the dust cleared, because, of course.
