Seattle Mariners right-handed pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma intends to try and continue his professional career next year pitching in Japan. The 37-year-old Iwakuma has missed the entire 2018 season as he's tried to recover from major shoulder surgery in September 2017. Michael Kopech, the top pitching prospect of the Chicago White Sox, has a torn ulnar collateral ligament and likely will undergo Tommy John surgery, the team announced Friday. Before his promotion to the White Sox last month, he was rated as the No. 2 right-handed-pitching prospect in the minor leagues and No. 13 overall by MLB.com. Usain Bolt has been granted a short break from his trial with the Central Coast Mariners due to a pre-arranged commitment in Europe. Bolt is on an "indefinite" trial with A-League side the Mariners as the 32-year-old Jamaican attempts to fulfil his dream of playing professional football. "After completing his first three weeks of training with the Central Coast Mariners, the club wishes to advise media that Usain Bolt will be abroad from Sunday, 9 September to Sunday, 16 September for a previously planned commitment," the Mariners said in a statement.
