Pinch hitter Nick Hundley capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning with a two-out, two-run, walk-off single Monday night, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 6-5 victory over the visiting San Diego Padres. The improbable rally off Padres closer Brad Hand (1-3) came with San Diego left-hander Eric Lauer one out away from his first major league win. Instead, San Francisco right-hander Pierce Johnson (1-1), who pitched a scoreless top of the ninth, got his first major league victory. Continue to Article

Pinch-hitter Nick Hundley lined a two-run single off San Diego Padres closer Brad Hand with two outs in the ninth inning to give the San Francisco Giants a 6-5 comeback victory Monday night. The Giants scored in only two innings and trailed 5-3 in the ninth before rallying for their third straight win and seventh in nine games. Pinch-hitter Austin Slater was hit by Hand's first pitch in the ninth. After Gorkys Hernandez and Andrew McCutchen struck out, Buster Posey walked. Evan Longoria followed with an RBI single before Hand (1-3) walked Brandon Belt to load the bases. Hundley took a ball, then lined the game-winner into left-center. Posey scored standing up and Longoria crossed home plate sliding Continue to Article

San Francisco Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner could be closing in on throwing pitches again. The four-time All-Star was leaving the Bay Area on Monday night to have his surgically repaired left pinkie examined by Dr. Donald Sheridan in Scottsdale, Ariz., according to Giants manager Bruce Bochy. "He's seeing the doctor tomorrow, and if all goes well, then the doctor will OK him to start throwing this week," manager Bruce Bochy said Monday before San Francisco opened a home series against the San Diego Padres. Hoping for clearance to begin a throwing program, San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner is headed to Arizona to meet with the same doctor who performed surgery on his left pinkie. Bumgarner was scheduled to leave the Bay Area on Monday night for a checkup with Dr. Donald Sheridan, who inserted three pins into Bumgarner's pitching hand one day after the 2014 World Series MVP was hit by a line drive late in spring training. If Bumgarner is cleared to start throwing, the four-time All-Star is still likely a month away from rejoining the big league club. Continue to Article

Mets RHP Zack Wheeler struck out nine batters in five innings in Sunday's 14-2 win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. Wheeler struck out six of the last eight batters he faced as he won his first game since April 11. His nine Ks are his most in an outing since he struck out 10 Cubs on Aug. 15, 2014. "I thought he looked really good," manager Mickey Callaway told reporters after the game. Wheeler labored through the first three innings before hitting a groove. He needed 30 pitches to pitch into and out of a bases-loaded jam in the first inning and had thrown 62 pitches through three. In total, he threw 66 of 95 pitches for strikes and allowed two runs and six hits. "That first inning, I Continue to Article
