ANAHEIM -- Brandon Belt of the San Francisco Giants saw 21 pitches in an epic plate appearance against Los Angeles Angels rookie right-hander Jaime Barria in the first inning Sunday, the most since records began in 1988. The left-handed Belt peppered the crowd with plenty of souvenirs by fouling off 11 straight pitches, including two long fouls down the right-field line, before lining out to right fielder Kole Calhoun. Home runs by Andrew McCutchen and Mac Williamson highlighted a six-run fifth inning and helped lift the San Francisco Giants to an 8-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels Friday night at Angel Stadium. Nick Hundley also homered for the Giants, who scored more on Friday than they did in their previous four games combined (five runs). San Francisco starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija (1-0), coming off the disabled list (strained pectoral muscle) to make his first start of the season, was not particularly sharp but managed to work his way through five scoreless innings to earn the victory.
