Houston
To say that Gerrit Cole is settling in well with his new club would be a massive understatement. The 27-year-old hurler, who came over to the Astros in a trade from the Pirates over the winter, has been absolutely dominant through his first three starts. On Friday, he wound up settling for a no-decision after allowing a pair of runs over seven strong innings against the Rangers. Continue to Article

Gerrit Cole was dominant - again. Cole struck out a career-high 14 in seven innings and Derek Fisher scored the go-ahead run on Drew Robinson's error in the eighth, sending the Houston Astros to a 3-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night. ''That was an incredible performance obviously,'' Houston manager A.J. Hinch said. Continue to Article

The losses are mounting quickly for the Texas Rangers, both in the standings and their starting lineup. They were also awaiting word on how long No. 3 hitter and 10-season starting shortstop Elvis Andrus will be out because of a broken right elbow. He was hit by a pitch on his throwing arm in the bottom of the ninth inning of their fourth straight loss, 7-2 to the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night. Second baseman Rougned Odor (left hamstring) and center fielder Delino DeShields (left hand) were already on the disabled list, along with right-hander Doug Fister (right hip strain). DeShields has been on the DL since March 31. Odor and Fister joined him Tuesday, a day after both aggravated previous Continue to Article

Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus broke his right elbow Wednesday night when he was hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of the team's fourth straight loss. Andrus, the 29-year-old in his 10th season as the Rangers starting shortstop, is likely headed to the disabled list for the first time in his career. Dr. Keith Meister, the team's physician, did initial X-rays and an examination at the stadium, and the team said after the 7-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels that those tests indicated the probability of a fracture. Shohei Ohtani never saw such a quick pickoff move by Chris Martin when they were teammates in Japan. Ohtani had an RBI single in the second inning that put the Los Angeles Angels ahead to stay, but was picked off first base in the eighth by his former teammate in a 7-2 victory Wednesday night over the Texas Rangers. "It wasn't like really a funny moment or anything," Ohtani said through his interpreter. Continue to Article
