Whether in Cincinnati with the Reds or New York with the Mets, Jay Bruce has long been a Phillies killer. Phillies starting pitcher Ben Lively did just what he wanted to do when he got Bruce to hit the ball on the ground to shortstop J.P. Crawford. Continue to Article

Since Conforto's injury wasn't to his lower half, there is no concern over activating him in Washington, D.C., Callaway explained. Conforto, who is working his way back from shoulder surgery and is well ahead of schedule, had at-bats against Jason Vargas during Vargas's indoor simulated game on Monday afternoon at Citi Continue to Article

Mets LHP Jason Vargas will throw a "controlled" simulated game on Saturday in Port St. Lucie, manager Mickey Callaway said on Tuesday. The "controlled" portion simply means that Vargas will not field his position/receive throws back from the catcher. Vargas, who is working his way back from surgery to remove the hamate bone in his right (non-throwing) hand, said he "felt really good" after throwing a 65-pitch bullpen session and facing outfielder Michael Conforto in a simulated game on Monday. "[I] was able to get up and down, felt a lot stronger than I anticipated, so I'm looking forward to that next step," Vargas said. The 35-year-old Vargas suffered the hand injury when he was hit by a line Continue to Article
