Things looked to be getting nasty between P.K. Subban and his former teammates. Subban was held off the scoresheet and played a turnover-filled game, but his Nashville Predators still pulled out a 3-2 shootout victory on Saturday night - mainly thanks to the outstanding play of goalie Pekka Rinne who made 47 saves, including 10 in the five-minute overtime period. There’s a certain level of scrutiny that comes with playing in a Canadian market. The fans are perceived to be perhaps fiercer in their loyalty to their team, almost militant at times and when things aren’t going the correct way, tempers flare a little brighter and anger seeps in a little deeper. There’s also a perception that the media in Canadian markets is tougher, that somehow scribes, radio personalities, and T.V. broadcasters can exert a level of influence that can turn the ship, even if ever so slightly. The Capitals have signed center Lars Eller to a $17.5 million, five-year contract extension. General manager Brian MacLellan announced the deal Saturday. The 28-year-old Dane was in the final year of his contract with the Capitals and would have become a free agent on July 1. Continue to Article

Travis Konecny scored two goals, Jakub Voracek, Claude Giroux and Ivan Provorov added one each and the Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Montreal Canadiens 5-3 Thursday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Shayne Gostisbehere earned three assists while Giroux also recorded two assists for the Flyers, who remain in the top wild-card spot in the standings.
