Bryce Harper, out with a bone bruise in his knee, was able to take batting practice again yesterday. He also sprinted and played catch and stuff and reported no problems. As such, the Washington Nationals are optimistic he’ll be able to return next week. This is certainly good news for Washington. By coming back next week Harper should be able to shake off some rust before the playoffs start. Dusty Baker has talked often in his time in the nation’s capital about how his best ideas for his lineups often come to him when he’s restless late at night. “My wife used to get on me because I had a pen and piece of paper by my bed and turn the light on — and she’d get upset,” Baker told reporters, as quoted in the Washington Post in May 2016. The Mets are reportedly concerned about having RHP Noah Syndergaard return this season as they feel he needs to be completely healthy in order to come back, according to The Record's Matt Ehalt. Syndergaard had hoped to return from a partially torn lat during this weekend's series against the Atlanta Braves and did not report any issues during a bullpen session on Thursday, but the Mets determined he was not yet ready to return after they reassessed him on Saturday.
