Arizona Diamondbacks
The San Diego Padres have little to play for as the season winds down, but Saturday will certainly be a game they remember from 2017. The Padres overcame a five-run deficit in the ninth inning to stun the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-7, with youngster Carlos Asuaje delivering the key hit. Asuaje's single drove in the tying run, and an error by Arizona left fielder David Peralta allowed the go-ahead run to score. Continue to Article

Here are the rest of Friday’s scores and highlights: Nationals 11, Phillies 10: Odubel Herrera extended a league-best 21-game hitting streak on Friday night, helping power the Phillies’ 10-run drive with a single in the seventh inning. That still wasn’t enough to quell the NL East leaders, who returned to haunt Herrera with a fly ball that went just over his head in the third inning: Michael A. ''I'm definitely disappointed letting this streak end on my start,'' Corbin said. Continue to Article

SAN FRANCISCO — On the night that yet another season spiraled out of his hands, Brandon Belt had an eerily prescient conversation with his hitting coach. Belt was on pace to approach 30 homers. A day earlier, he had tied his career-high by crushing his 18th. Hensley Meulens congratulated him and noted that he would easily surpass his previous best.  “Yeah,” Belt joked, “Unless I get a season-ending injury or something.” A few hours later, Arizona Diamondbacks rookie Anthony Banda lost command of a curveball and drilled Belt on the side of the helmet. The first baseman went down right away. He hasn’t played since.  Belt, in a phone interview with NBC Sports Bay Area, acknowledged the obvious: Continue to Article

As a fan at a ballpark, you take your food into your own hands if you’re sitting in certain sections. If a ball flies toward you, be prepared to catch the ball or use your food to catch it — and then wear the food all over you for the rest of the night. One San Diego Padres fan understood that bargain when he sat in the Petco Park stands for Thursday’s Padres-St. Louis Cardinals game. Continue to Article
