The Houston Astros stood pretty much pat at the trade deadline, adding Francisco Liriano but not much else. This despite the fact that key members of their rotation has spent a lot of time on the disabled list and the fact that other American League contenders made moves to improve themselves. Teams can still trade in August after the July 31 trade deadline, there is just more red tape and paperwork to deal with first. August's major hurdle to deals — waivers — has been cleared by Tigers starter Justin Verlander, thanks to the $56 million still owed him over the next two seasons. That means Verlander can be traded to any team in the league, and according to MLB's Jon Morosi, the Astros are hoping they're that team.
