New York Yankees second baseman Starlin Castro is "a ways away" from returning from the disabled list, manager Joe Girardi told reporters following Monday's 7-3 win over the Detroit Tigers. Castro was placed on the disabled list for the second time in a month due to a hamstring injury. Aaron Judge hit his league-leading 34th home run of the season while Chase Headley and Todd Frazier both drove in two runs as the New York Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers 7-3 on Monday at Yankee Stadium.  Box score Judge had been in the middle of a 3-for-23 slump when he hit his fourth home run since the All-Star break, while Headley recorded three hits. Headley's two-run double in the bottom of the fourth inning turned a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 lead, and Frazier followed with a two-run single that made it 4-1. Judge's fifth-inning home run gave the Yankees a 5-1 lead. Luis Severino (8-4) pitched only five innings, his shortest outing since mid-May, as he threw 68 of 116 pitches for strikes. OAKLAND — Executive vice president Billy Beane made it clear a couple of weeks ago. The A’s are rebuilding. He fortified those statements on Monday when the club traded star pitcher Sonny Gray to the New York Yankees on Monday in exchange for prospects Jorge Mateo, Dustin Fowler and James Kaprielian. Beane wants to transform the club into a team that will be ready to compete for a championship when it moves into a new stadium that he believes is only a few years away. In order to make that happen Beane said trading a player of Gray’s caliber is a necessity. “This is part of our process. We’re in last place and we need to do something,” Beane said. “Sonny was a great player for us, but at this Continue to Article
