Baltimore Orioles
There's something that's just not natural about noon baseball, but here we are on Wednesday afternoon, with the Orioles playing the rubber game of a series against the Rays at this hour. If you're stuck at work and unable to watch this particular contest, that may actually be better for you. Ubaldo Jimenez is pitching. Well, there's always a chance it won't be horrible today. The most maddening thing about Jimenez is that you know those great outings are locked up in there somewhere. They just seldom surface. There's not much reason to believe today will be the day. The loss on Tuesday night has sent the Orioles to 4.5 games back of a wild card spot. They must pass six teams. If they are going Continue to Article

We’re more than halfway through the season in the minor leagues, which means it’s time to reevaluate prospect rankings and dive a bit deeper into who sits on top of the lists. This week, it was MLB Pipeline’s turn to adjust their rankings as the outlet released a new MLB Top 100 along with top 30 lists for each team. And of course, the Orioles were included in the fresh rankings. The full Orioles Top 30 has quite a few adjustments and quite frankly several surprises. Below, a few of the most notable storylines to emerge from the new list that includes high praise for several selections from the 2017 Draft. Austin Hays leapfrogs Ryan Mountcastle, ranked #2 in the organization If you’ve been following Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles woke up this morning with an 8% chance of making the playoffs, according to Fangraphs. They have had the worst starting rotation in the AL by a large margin for some time, as well as an offense with multiple $10+ million players underperforming expectations. Despite these things, not only have the Orioles not given up on the season, but MASN's Roch Kubatko reports that the team is "actively seeking a starting pitcher." The idea of trading any kind of asset for one starting pitcher that can't possibly make a difference in this season just makes me sigh and shake my head. On the other hand, the Orioles rotation is so bad that even a mediocre starter would represent an improvement on Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays are teams currently heading in different directions. Kevin Gausman pitched six strong innings, Adam Jones homered and the Orioles sent the Rays to their season-worst fifth straight loss, 5-0 Monday night. ''It all feeds off the starting pitching,'' Jones said. Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
One of the best things about great players is the way that they make the extraordinary almost look routine. Although the Orioles season has had its share of disappointments, it has also had its share of sparkling plays in the field, especially involving the best infield buddies, Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop. Machado and Schoop struck again early in the Orioles game against the Rays on Monday night, turning a ground ball into a double play that most infield combos probably wouldn’t have been able to convert into one out, let alone into two. Check out this bit of defensive wizardry: MASN’s Gary Thorne is as awed as you’d expect from him after that display of brilliance, but even one of the Continue to Article
