Atlanta Braves
Stephen Strasburg tossed seven scoreless against the New York Mets this past Monday, holding Washington’s divisional rivals to two hits, and three walks, in a 105-pitch effort in what ended up a 3-2 in which he received no decision. The outing extended a five-start unbeaten streak for the 28-year-old righty, who had avoided a loss over that stretch in spite of the fact that he hadn’t been particularly sharp. In those five starts, the ‘09 No. 1 overall pick was (2-0) with the Nationals 4-1 in his outings, over which the eight-year veteran had put up a 4.60 ERA, nine walks (2.76 BB/9), 39 Ks (11.97 K/9), and a .245/.315/.427 line against in 29 1⁄3 innings pitched. Dusty Baker told reporters on Friday night he hoped Nationals’ outfielder Michael A. Taylor’s oblique strain, which landed him on the 10-Day DL, would not be a long-term issue. The timing, Baker said, was as good as one could hope for, all things considered. “Hopefully it won’t be more than 10 days,” Baker explained. “Luckily for us, four of those days are All-Star Break, so if it was going to happen you couldn’t pick a more opportune time than now.” The hope is that the Nationals and Taylor shut it down soon enough, after it was an issue for a few weeks. Taylor said it’s, “been a couple weeks now since I originally injured it.” “I took a couple days off then and it was starting to go the right Continue to Article

The New York Mets say they wanted a reunion with Bartolo Colon, but Big Sexy has opted for a new home. The 44-year-old Colon agreed to terms Friday on a minor league deal with the Minnesota Twins, who would be his 10th major league team over a 20-year career. ''You know he's been around a long time if I've faced him,'' Twins manager Paul Molitor joked, adding he vaguely remembers getting a hit off Colon in his final game in 1998. Continue to Article

Daniel Murphy's one-out RBI single in the 10th inning capped the Washington Nationals' 5-4 comeback victory over the Atlanta Braves on Friday night. Adrian Sanchez led off the 10th against Ian Krol (1-2) with his first major league hit and two batters later moved to third on Ryan Zimmerman's single. Murphy then lofted an opposite-field single over left fielder Matt Kemp's head to win it for Washington. Continue to Article

Atlanta Braves
Freddie Freeman homered in the seventh and drove in two runs in the eight to put the Atlanta Braves up 4-1, and the visiting team took that three-run lead into the ninth in Washington, D.C. before the Nationals rallied against reliever Jim Johnson. Bryce Harper singled to start the ninth. Ryan Zimmerman walked. Daniel Murphy and Anthony Rendon hit back-to-back, RBI singles, 4-3, and Matt Wieters hit a one-out sac fly to center to bring Murphy in and tie it up at 4-4 and eventually send it two extras. Adrian Sanchez singled to start the Nationals’ tenth, after Matt Albers got the Nats out of a jam in the top of the inning, and Sanchez took third on a Zimmerman single before scoring on a walk-off Continue to Article
