Cincinnati Reds
One night after a hard-fought, come-from-behind, walk-off win over the Cincinnati Reds, the Washington Nationals won a laugher, taking the second game of three in Nationals Park by a score of 18-3 on Saturday afternoon. The NL East-leading Nats collected 19 hits and scored 18 runs in their second straight win over the Reds, with everyone pitching in. Trea Turner and Michael A. Taylor’s contributions stood out from the rest, with the Nationals’ 24-year-old shortstop going 5 for 5 on the day with a walk and four runs, and the 26-year-old outfielder going 4 for 5 with a double, two home runs, and four runs scored. Turner’s five-hit game and free pass took him from a .262/.297/.413 line on the year Continue to Article

Steve Scalise, the Louisiana lawmaker shot last week at a U.S. congressional baseball team practice, is no longer in the intensive care unit of the hospital where he is being treated and remains in fair condition, the hospital said on Friday. "Congressman Steve Scalise’s continued good progress allowed him to be transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) on Thursday," said MedStar Washington Hospital Center. Continue to Article

Dusty Baker still isn’t saying what is wrong with Michael A. Taylor that’s kept the 26-year-old outfielder out of the lineup for the last two games. Baker declined to offer any detailed information before or after the series finale in Miami, other than to say that Taylor was unavailable. Asked again this afternoon where the issue was, after Wilmer Difo was penciled in as the starting center fielder with Taylor sitting out again, Baker offered the reporter who wondered two reasons why he wasn’t saying. “No. 1, it’s none of your business,” Baker said with a wry smile, “and No. 2, the opposition don’t need to know where. You know what I mean?” “Certain things are our business. Everything is not Continue to Article

Cincinnati Reds
Two teams that sport multiple players in contention for the NL home run title will battle it out this weekend in the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals. Washington has one of the deepest offenses in baseball which is no secret but an underrated part of its game is how effective its bench has been when called upon. Not only do the Nats rank third in the majors with a .775 OPS as pinch hitters, every current bench player other than Jose Lobaton has an OPS of .784 or higher. Continue to Article
