Daniel Murphy didn’t exactly get the answer he was looking for when he asked umpire Alan Porter to shift out of his line of sight Tuesday. The Washington Nationals second baseman was on the field in the second inning against the Atlanta Braves when Porter got in his way. Murphy appeared to have a conversation with the umpire about it, but Porter was less than receptive to the 32-year-old, dropping an F-bomb toward Murphy once he wasn’t looking. Porter couldn’t be heard on the broadcast, but cameras pretty clearly caught what he said. For what it’s worth, Murphy downplayed the incident after the Nats’ 10-5 over Atlanta. “Alan and I talked,” Murphy said, per The Washington Post. “I think we both Continue to Article

Steve Scalise, being taken to the hospital. “It’s horrifying to see the video of my buddy being wheeled out of there after being shot in the hip,” Radel said. Radel had just finished his Wednesday morning show for 92.5 FOX Radio when he learned Scalise and four others were shot during practice for a charity congressional baseball game. Scalise, congressional staffers and Capitol Police officers were wounded in the shooting. The suspect, later identified as James T. Hodgkinson, 66, of Belleville, Illinois, was taken into custody, but later succumbed to his injuries, according to authorities. Radel emphasized Continue to Article

A congressional baseball practice session was attacked Wednesday morning by a gunman in Alexandria, Virginia, leaving at least one politician—Representative Steve Scalise, a Louisiana Republican—wounded and his colleagues shaken. As the news of the attack unfolded, members of the team including Senators Jeff Flake and Rand Paul and Representative Mo Brooks fanned out to give interviews to the media. They were all on scene when the suspect opened fire at the early-morning practice, hitting not only Scalise but also two law enforcement officers and an aide, The New York Times reported. The Congressional Baseball Game is a tradition dating back to 1909, one in which "Senate and House members of each party team up to settle scores and solidify friendships off the floor and on the field," according to the MLB website.
