Before the second of three with the Giants in San Franciscos AT&T Park, Washington Nationals skipper Dusty Baker and Nats slugger Bryce Harper downplayed the possibility there would be retaliation for Hunter Stricklands 98 mph purpose pitch during the eighth inning of Mondays series opener. Suspensions (four games for Harper, six for Strickland) were handed out before the game, punishing Strickland for the pitch, and Harper for charging the mound, tossing his helmet, even though he missed, and exchanging punches with the reliever he took deep twice in the 2014 NLDS and hadnt faced since. The San Francisco Giants have placed first baseman Michael Morse on the seven-day concussion list after his collision with starting pitcher Jeff Samardzija in the brawl against the Washington Nationals. Utility player Kelby Tomlinson has been called up to take Morse's spot on the roster. SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants did not emerge from Monday’s brawl unscathed. Moments before Tuesday’s first pitch, the club placed first baseman Michael Morse on the 7-day concussion disabled list and recalled infielder/outfielder Kelby Tomlinson from Triple-A Sacramento. Morse knocked heads with Jeff Samardzija during the fight. They were the first two players to reach the combatants after right-hander Hunter Strickland hit Bryce Harper with a pitch and Harper charged the mound. Harper later expressed gratitude for Morse, a former teammate with the Nationals, for impeding Samardzija from possibly landing a punch. Samardzija apparently was OK after the collision.
