ST. LOUIS (AP) -- Joey Votto hit a tiebreaking single in the eighth inning and Adam Duvall doubled three times and singled, helping the Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 on Sunday. The Reds had lost eight of their previous nine games. Wandy Peralta (1-0) picked up the win by tossing a scoreless seventh inning. Closer Raisel Iglesias threw two innings to record his fourth save in as many chances. Trevor Rosenthal (0-1) gave up one run on two hits. Duvall, Eugenio Suarez and Scott Schebler drove in runs in the three-run seventh to tie the game. John Bormann woke up on Sunday morning thinking he’d be playing against the Charlotte Stone Crabs in Port Charlotte, Florida. Before that could happen, the 24-year-old Single-A catcher in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm system had to make it across the state in three hours, alert his family, his teammates and his friends and somehow convince himself that this was actually happening. It's a long way from the Florida State League to the majors, which is why catcher John Bormann was in such a rush on Interstate 75. A catcher for Class A Bradenton, Bormann was preparing Sunday morning to play in Port Charlotte when he learned he had been called up to make his big league debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who had an afternoon game in Miami. The Miami Marlins took a look at a collage of Ichiro Suzuki's career and began to swing the bat better. Suzuki was given a Plexiglas mosaic of photographs showing each of his first 3,000 hits during a pregame ceremony Sunday, and the Marlins promptly shook an offensive slump to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-3. The Miami Marlins paid tribute to Ichiro Suzuki by giving him a mosaic of photographs showing each of his first 3,000 hits. Suzuki reached the milestone last season and was honored before Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
