This umpire isn’t the hero we need; he’s the one we deserve. Homeplate ump just picked up a food wrapper that blew onto the field and smelled it. This will not help the MLB pick up the pace of play. pic.twitter.com/6DkD3DdwY9— MetsKevin11 Continue to Article

New York Mets
NEW YORK -- The New York Mets did not hit a home run against Phillies pitching on Tuesday night. That almost qualifies as a stop-the-presses moment these days because it seems as if all the Mets do is take Phillies pitchers deep. The Mets have out-homered the Phillies, 79-35, since the start of the 2015 season. They hit 10 of them in sweeping a three-game series from the Phillies last week at Citizens Bank Park. That sweep helped the Mets build a 29-12 record against the Phils since the start of 2015 entering Tuesday night's matchup at Citi Field. New York Mets
Things you should know about today's game... 1) With the Mets leading by a run and a man on first and two outs in the eighth, Jose Reyes dropped an easy pop-up that would have resulted in the third out of the inning. Instead, Jerry Blevins surrendered a game-tying double to Andres Blanco.  2) The Phillies scored four times off Rafael Montero and Sean Gilmartin in the 10th. Montero retired one batter and was charged with four runs (three earned) on three hits.  3) Zack Wheeler labored through five innings but allowed just a first-inning solo home run to Odubel Herrera. The right-hander allowed four hits and two walks with a season-high seven strikeouts.  4) Jay Bruce had an RBI single and Yoenis Continue to Article

Jeurys Familia struck out one batter in a scoreless inning Monday with Double-A Binghamton. Familia's 15-game suspension for an domestic violence incident in 2016 will end Wednesday. Terry Collins said Sunday that Familia is expected to appear in another game during the next two days with Double-A Binghamton before likely joining the Mets on Thursday at Citi Field. "He's a huge piece of our team," Collins added, according to MLB.com. "This guy was arguably one of the best closers in baseball last year. So, to know that he's a few days from returning is something nice to look forward to." Familia may be eased back into the closer role once he returns, Collins explained, so that his closer can Continue to Article
