SAN FRANCISCO — In 2013, Brandon Crawford spent most of his time hitting eighth. The next year, he moved up a spot, and by 2015 he was a regular in the six-spot. Melvin Upton Jr. signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday and the veteran outfielder is working out at extended spring training in Arizona. The deal had been in the works and Upton needed a physical to finalize it. It's unclear yet what role Upton might have and when he could join the Giants to offer some depth in the outfield. Lee and four relievers combined on a three-hitter, Ryan Schimpf homered as part of a four-run first inning and the San Diego Padres beat the Colorado Rockies 6-0 on Wednesday.
