At about 10:15 p.m. Pacific time Tuesday, the retractable roof at Safeco Field made its methodical closure while the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers played the eighth inning of another high-scoring baseball game. It seemed like the only way to contain the Rangers' unlimited offense. Andrus had a homer, three doubles and two errors, Jonathan Lucroy hit a two-run homer and the Texas Rangers held off the slumping Seattle Mariners 10-7 on Tuesday night. Robinson Cano homered during a five-run first inning, the Mariners knocked out starter Cole Hamels early and then Seattle pulled away with a six-run sixth inning in a 14-6 win over the AL West-leading Texas Rangers on Monday. Cano's 32nd homer of the season is one off his career high set in 2012 while with the New York Yankees. Los Angeles Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker underwent surgery to stop bleeding on his brain after he was struck in the head by a line drive against the Seattle Mariners. Los Angeles athletic trainer Adam Nevala is staying with him until he is able to travel to Southern California, perhaps as soon as in a few days. Angels general manager Billy Eppler provided the update Monday in Oakland, saying Shoemaker had been receiving CT scans every 2-3 hours when the third image showed increased bleeding, shortly before 9 p.m. That's when surgery was determined the next step.
