Nationals 5, Tigers 4 Pinch-hitter Clint Robinson hit a solo homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth off Mark Lowe as the Washington Nationals beat the Detroit Tigers 5-4 on Monday, sending the Tigers to their seventh loss in a row. Robinson's homer came one batter after Danny Espinosa was ejected after he was called out on strikes by home plate umpire Brian Knight. Marlins 4, Brewers 1 Jose Fernandez stuck out 11 batters in seven scoreless innings and the Miami Marlins beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 on Monday despite a Miami run being taken off the scoreboard when J.T. By Larry Fine NEW YORK (Reuters) - Cuban closer Aroldis Chapman is renowned for his breakneck fastball yet New York Yankees fans were forced to wait a month to witness his explosive pace before he made a winning debut on Monday after serving a suspension for a domestic abuse incident. Entering the game in the ninth with a 6-2 lead over the World Series champion Kansas City Royals, Chapman was cheered by the Yankee Stadium crowd and delivered seven pitches at 100 mph (160 kph) or more to the delight of the fans. The "Cuban Missile" struck out the first two batters before pinch-hitter Paulo Orlando doubled deep to center and scored on a single by Alcides Escobar to make it 6-3 before the left-hander retired Lorenzo Cain on a ground out to end the game. The Pittsburgh Pirates are trying not to dig too deep a hole in the NL Central, but their continued mediocrity within the division isn't helping. An unexpected team with one of the shovels is the Cincinnati Reds, who seek their third straight win over the visiting Pirates on Tuesday night. After opening 8-3 within its own division, Pittsburgh (17-15) has lost six of eight and has fallen a full eight games back of the first-place Chicago Cubs. Continue to Article

Tucker Barnhart hadn't hit a homer in nearly a year, compiling one of the longest droughts in the majors. Barnhart hit the last of Cincinnati's three solo homers off Jonathon Niese, and Reds relievers threw three scoreless innings - a rarity for the major leagues' worst bullpen - to close out a 3-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night. Zack Cozart and Joey Votto also connected off Niese (3-2), with all three homers barely reaching the stands in left field. Continue to Article
