Saturday's game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals was delayed for 11 minutes before the top of the third inning when plate umpire Dana DeMuth had to leave the game. DeMuth was being evaluated for a head injury and was not expected to return to the game. Gerrit Cole and Michael Wacha were among the NL wins leaders last season, but neither is above .500 right now. Lately, Cole hasn't performed as though he deserves to be whereas Wacha certainly has. The Cincinnati Reds optioned struggling reliever J.J. Hoover to Triple-A Louisville on Saturday and recalled right-hander Drew Hayes from their top farm club. The Reds also placed right-hander Jon Moscot on the 15-day disabled list and promoted righty Steve Delabar from Louisville before their game against Milwaukee. Hoover was handed the closer's job in spring training after Aroldis Chapman was traded to the Yankees, but he allowed six home runs in 10 2/3 innings over 12 games and 17 earned runs overall for a 14.34 ERA.
