It wasn't supposed to be this difficult for the Toronto Blue Jays, who put up a half-run more than anyone in the majors after the All-Star break last season and haven't come close to that level of production in 2016. The Blue Jays' 5.70 runs per game from mid-July on dwarfed anyone else's production, but that number was at 3.90 - 19th in the majors - heading into Thursday's game against Texas. Toronto (15-15) cracked double digits 26 times last season but waited until Thursday to do it in 2016. Continue to Article

Jordan Zimmermann is making the Detroit Tigers' investment look wise after a run in April that hasn't been seen very often. Texas counters with Cole Hamels in Friday night's series opener at Comerica Park as both clubs look to snap three-game skids. May 5 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Thursday's Major League Baseball games: Cardinals 4, Phillies 0 Brandon Moss hit the longest home run by a left-handed batter in Busch Stadium history -- 462 feet off the third deck in right field -- and Jaime Garcia pitched seven shutout innings on Thursday, pacing the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-0 victory against the Philadelphia Phillies. Moss' seventh homer is the fourth longest overall in Busch, which opened in 2006. It came with two outs in the bottom of the first against losing pitcher Jerad Eickhoff and staked Garcia to a quick 1-0 lead. Continue to Article

As a player whose game traditionally picks up a few notches in May, Edwin Encarnacion sure sounded like a man who knew a big performance was just around the corner. The 33-year-old homered, doubled twice and drove in six runs as the Toronto Blue Jays powered past the Texas Rangers 12-2 on Thursday night. Since 2013, Edwin Encarnacion leads the majors in home runs. Continue to Article

The Kansas City Royals hadn't been hitting lately. It was the one constant during a surprising run to Game 7 of the World Series two years ago, and to their five-game whipping of the New York Mets last fall for the championship. ''This thing goes in cycles,'' manager Ned Yost insisted a day before Kansas City (14-13) opens a seven-game road trip Friday night in Cleveland. Continue to Article
