Colorado Rockies
Trevor Story is so hot right now even his bouts with bad luck produce positive results. The Colorado Rockies shortstop home run streak ended Monday, but he had another terrific night at the plate Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two triples in a 10-6 win over San Francisco. Two triples, you say? While triples are great – maybe even the most exciting play in baseball – our investigation reveals Story was actually robbed of two more home runs, which would have given him nine dingers in his first eight career games. [ Join a Yahoo Daily Fantasy Baseball contest now ] The Rockies decided to raise the fences down the left-field line and in right-center field this season in yet another effort to control the hitter-friendly environment in Denver. It was thought to be a way to protect Colorado's pitchers, but instead they're finding out it could also limit their new power-hitting shortstop. Story rocked a pitch to deep right-center in the fourth inning that would have been a sure home run just a year ago, but because of the raised fence the ball smacked off the top of the wall. Fortunately, Story wasn't taking any chance and he hustled around the bases for his first triple. His next at-bat came in the sixth inning and Story got a hold of another pitch, sending this one to a little more toward right field. Once again, a ball that would have cleared the wall last year hit the upper portion of the fence, forcing Story to settle for triple No. 2. [Elsewhere: Francisco Lindor might be afraid of the Tropicana Field catwalks ] First it was home runs. Now it's triples. Story just keeps coming up with ways to surprise us. What does he have in store for his next game? We'll have to wait and see. San Francisco Giants
With Nolan Arenado having broken out of his, the Rockies aim to earn a series victory and extend Matt Cain's winless stretch in Thursday's finale with the San Francisco Giants. Stymied by Jeff Samardzija's eight outstanding innings in Tuesday's 7-2 loss, the Rockies returned to their heavy-hitting ways in the second of this three-game set. With Arenado's two homers and seven RBIs leading the charge, Colorado collected 18 hits en route to Wednesday's 10-6 win. Continue to Article
