Sharks vs. Blues Prediction: St. Louis Favored, but -142 Is a Pass

Analysis updated October 8, 2026 at 1:30 AM CDT

The Blues are the more likely winner in their home opener, but the available evidence does not justify their -142 price.

Blues have the early edge

St. Louis enters its home opener at 1-2-0, but its only win was a 4-0 result at Dallas. San Jose also played its last game in Dallas and lost 5-0. Those results favor the Blues, though they provide little evidence that St. Louis is worth backing at -142.

The Hockey News reported that Connor McMichael leads St. Louis with three points through three games, while Dalibor Dvorsky and Mason McTavish have two goals each. The Blues had also killed 90% of opposing power plays, sixth in the NHL, but their own power play had converted only 12.5%.

Unconfirmed availability limits the betting case

Macklin Celebrini missed San Jose's loss to Dallas, and The Hockey News reported that his status for Thursday remained uncertain. His absence would remove an important player from a team coming off a shutout, but bettors do not yet have confirmation that he will sit.

Starting goalies and complete lineups are also unconfirmed. That makes the Blues' -142 moneyline and the 5.5 total difficult to price with confidence. St. Louis is the more likely winner, but the moneyline, puck line and total are all passes.
