The New York Yankees will have Aroldis Chapman back in 2020 closing games for them. Chapman had an option to opt-out of his contract with the Yankees and test the free-agent market but instead signed an extension that will keep him in pinstripes through the 2022 season, ESPN reported. Chapman will make a total of $30 million over the next two seasons and then make $18 million in the final year of his contract, according to ESPN. Continue to Article

Reliever Aroldis Chapman will attempt to secure a contract extension with the New York Yankees before Saturday or opt out of the final two years and $30 million remaining on his current deal with the club, MLB Network announced. If Chapman opts out, the Yankees are expected to present him with a $17.8 million qualifying offer for 2020, according to the report. The Seattle Mariners have declined Wade LeBlanc's $5.5 million option for the 2020 season, and the left-hander will become a free agent. LeBlanc was a starter for part of last season before being moved to the bullpen as the Mariners opted to give some of its younger prospects a chance in the rotation. Because he has those two secondary offerings in his back pocket, Bass has traditionally been able to induce relatively neutral platoon splits.
