Former major league catcher and first baseman Mike Napoli will join the Chicago Cubs' coaching staff, according to multiple reports Thursday. Napoli, who hit 267 home runs over 12 seasons with the Los Angeles, Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians, will become the Cubs' quality assurance coach under new manager David Ross, according to The Athletic. Bochy announced his retirement from the sport at the dawn of the 2019 season, leaving the Giants looking for a new manager come the winter. The U.S. Treasury Department has told Major League Baseball that a change to its sanctions on Venezuela last week does not allow MLB to resume a partnership with the Venezuelan baseball league, according to a person familiar with the matter. The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League's (LVBP) season got off to an underwhelming start last week, with stadiums nearly empty and star players absent from the eight teams' rosters.
