New York Jets center Ryan Kalil was placed on season-ending injured reserve, the team announced Saturday. Kalil, who is a five-time Pro Bowl selection, was lured out of retirement with a one-year, $8.4 million contract in the offseason. The 34-year-old Kalil started seven games this season before sustaining a knee injury during New York's 29-15 loss to Jacksonville on Oct. 27. Continue to Article

Colin Kaepernick has to audition for a job in a workout strangely organized by the NFL while other quarterbacks with lesser talent were given opportunities over the past three years. Of course, the reason Kaepernick hasn't played in a game since New Year's Day 2017 goes beyond football. The NFL and the NFL Players Association are said to be making progress toward a new labor deal that would include an expanded season, even as multiple players engage in high-profile clashes over how their teams handled health-related issues. A collective-bargaining agreement that includes a 17-game regular season and larger playoff field could be completed by as early as January, the Washington Post reported, citing sources on both sides of the ongoing negotiations. The NFL's 32 owners have signaled a willingness to make concessions, the substance of which were not yet clear, in order to entice player representatives to agree to the longer schedule. At least 11 NFL teams will send representatives to a private workout arranged for Colin Kaepernick this weekend, the league confirmed Thursday. Kaepernick has been unemployed since the end of the 2016-2017 season, when he ignited controversy by kneeling during the pre-game playing of the US national anthem to protest racial injustice. In an unexpected move on Tuesday, the NFL announced it had arranged a workout for Kaepernick on Saturday and invited all teams to send scouts to watch and interview the ex-San Francisco 49ers star.
