The Pittsburgh Pirates, still looking for a manager and general manager, will pick up the club option on right-hander Chris Archer, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The 31-year-old will be owed $8.25 million in 2020 after going 3-9 with a 5.19 ERA in 23 starts last season before being shut down in August due to inflammation in his pitching shoulder. The Athletic's Andrew Baggarly reported Saturday that the Giants have told the longtime coach that he is no longer in the running for their open job. Cleveland Indians pitcher Carlos Carrasco was named the winner of this year's Roberto Clemente Award for humanitarian work, charcater and community service by Major League Baseball on Friday. The 32-year-old Venezuelan right-hander was diagnosed earlier this year with a form of blood cancer called chronic myeloid leukemia that sidelined him for much of the season. Carrasco and his wife, Karry, provide box lunches for the homeless every other Sunday in the off-season, fund a scholarship for single mothers and donate money for clothes, medicine, food and school supplies to underprivileged areas in the United States, Colombia, Venezuela, and Africa.
