The 29-year-old right-hander was always considered the most likely player to accept his qualifying offer, as it seemed unlikely that he'd receive an offer close in terms of average annual value from another club; especially with draft-pick compensation tied to him and the plethora of elite options on the market this offseason. He recorded a pristine 3.51 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 178/53 K/BB ratio across 30 starts (159 innings) this past season. He's been extremely durable, making at least 28 starts in six consecutive seasons, dating back to the 2014 campaign. Continue to Article

Kapler spent 12 seasons as a professional baseball player, playing for six different teams, and being a part of the famous 2004 Boston Red Sox who won the franchise's first World Series since 1918, ending the infamous, "Curse of the Bambino." After he retired in 2011, Kapler bounced around the world of baseball for a few years. Continue to Article

In the National League, Pete Alonso took home the award -- though unlike his American League counterpart, his victory was not unanimous. Braves' hurler Mike Soroka received one first place vote with Alonso claiming the other 29. It's the sixth time that a Mets' player has won the award, joining Tom Seaver (1967), Jon Matlack (1972), Darryl Strawberry (1983), Dwight Gooden (1984) and Jacob deGrom (2014). Continue to Article

Major League Baseball has expanded its investigation into the Houston Astros after The Athletic website reported the team stole signs during home games in 2017 by using a camera positioned in center field. The report Tuesday quoted pitcher Mike Fiers, who played for the Astros that season, and three other unidentified people with the club. The Astros won the World Series that year — two sources told The Athletic that Houston used the system into the playoffs while another source said the system ended before the postseason.
