The San Francisco Giants appointed Gabe Kapler as their manager on a three-year contract on Tuesday. Kapler, 44, was fired by the Philadelphia Phillies last month after two disappointing seasons during which they went 161-163. The San Francisco Giants have selected former Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler as Bruce Bochy's successor, the team announced Tuesday night. Kapler was fired after two seasons in charge of the Philadelphia Phillies, in which the team hovered around .500 despite an effort to break through in the NL East. The Pittsburgh Pirates, still looking for a manager and general manager, will pick up the club option on right-hander Chris Archer, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The 31-year-old will be owed $8.25 million in 2020 after going 3-9 with a 5.19 ERA in 23 starts last season before being shut down in August due to inflammation in his pitching shoulder.
