With Justin Smoak a free agent and Rowdy Tellez is coming off a rookie season that isn't particularly encouraging, it's clear that first base is a major hole for the Toronto Blue Jays. Free agency is a valid route, but so too is the trade market where there are some interesting bats floating around who could be a major upgrade for the Blue Jays' lineup. The Houston Astros appear to be descending further into a lengthy PR nightmare, and it looks like they're nowhere close to getting out of it. After The Athletic's discovery this past week of the team stealing signs back in 2017 through a complicated system, Major League Baseball has decided to launch an investigation into the situation, and a current member of the Toronto Blue Jays is involved. Less than a week after his mother died, Shildt was honored for piloting the St. Louis Cardinals back into the playoffs, narrowly beating Craig Counsell of the Milwaukee Brewers to win NL Manager of the Year. Shildt earned the award in his first full season on the job, even though Counsell received more first-place votes (13-10) from the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli won the AL prize in a tight finish over Aaron Boone of the New York Yankees. Continue to Article

Cavan Biggio and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. were among the lone bright spots for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019 and the league certainly took notice. Biggio, who was called up from Triple-A on May 24, finished fifth in American League Rookie of the Year voting. Guerrero Jr. entered the 2019 season as baseball's unanimously highest-touted prospect and showed flashes of brilliance throughout his debut campaign. Continue to Article

Yordan Álvarez may have gotten a late start to his rookie season, but the Houston Astros slugger left no doubt that he belongs at the head of his class. Álvarez, a 21-year-old designated hitter with game-changing power, was named the AL Rookie of the Year on Monday by a unanimous vote of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Baltimore Orioles pitcher John Means finished second in the voting. Continue to Article
