American Muhammad breaks own world record to win 400m hurdles American Dalilah Muhammad broke her own world record to win the women's 400 metres hurdles at the world championships with a time of 52.16 seconds on Friday, edging out compatriot Sydney McLaughlin in a gripping race. John Tavares was named the 25th captain in Toronto Maple Leafs history Wednesday night before the season opener against the Ottawa Senators, filling a role that had been vacant for more than 3 1/2 years. Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares has been named the 25th captain in the history of the Original Six franchise. Tavares received a thunderous ovation at Scotiabank Arena after he was the last player introduced prior to Wednesday's season-opening game against the visiting Ottawa Senators.
