New York Yankees ace Luis Severino, sidelined since spring training, could begin a throwing program next week, but his return appears to be anything but imminent. General manager Brian Cashman said Severino will need "six weeks or more" to work himself up to being ready to come off the injured list and there's a good chance he won't be ready to resume a full-time starting job. Cashman suggested Severino might be used in a new role for the tail end of the season. Continue to Article

Former New York Yankees star Mariano Rivera was the New York Racing Association's guest of honor on Friday at Saratoga Race Course, and he walked away with custom-made pinstriped jockey's silks with his No. 42 on the back. Rivera was driven to the winner's circle before the third race as ''Enter Sandman'' played on the track's public address system, a nod to the Metallica song played at Yankee Stadium whenever the most successful closer in major league history was summoned from the bullpen. After the race, won by Conquest Hardcandy, Rivera presented the Mariano Rivera Hall of Fame trophy to the horse's owner, Alfonso Cammarota. Continue to Article

Astronauts, world leaders, a pope and war veterans all have been honored with ticker-tape parades in New York City's famed Canyon of Heroes. Now, the Women's National Team is the center of the celebration on Wednesday, commemorating its World Cup win in France on Sunday. Player of the tournament Megan Rapinoe struck her iconic goal-scoring pose as she displayed the World Cup trophy to the roaring crowds lining the route along Lower Manhattan's fabled "Canyon of Heroes." Right-hander Noah Syndergaard could be traded if the New York Mets are approached with the "right deal," MLB Network reported. Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler are reportedly available, but the Mets are not soliciting offers, according to the report. Last week, MLB Network linked Wheeler to American League East rivals. Tens of thousands of fans are poised to pack the streets of New York on Wednesday to salute the World Cup-winning US women's team in a ticker-tape parade. Four years after roaring fans lined the route of Lower Manhattan's fabled "Canyon of Heroes" to cheer the US women winning the 2015 World Cup, the Big Apple is poised for another raucous celebration. An open-top bus will transport the team along the route, which runs from Battery Park up Broadway before finally arriving at City Hall for a ceremony hosted by New York Mayor Bill de Blasio. The American League (AL) won their seventh consecutive MLB All-Star Game after holding off the National League (NL) 4-3 on Tuesday. The AL recorded two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to get a big enough lead to hold off the NL's late rally half an inning later. Joey Gallo's solo home run capped off the seventh at Progressive Field. Continue to Article

There's a worthy debate to be had about whether the Toronto Blue Jays should trade Marcus Stroman or try to extend the right-hander and build a rotation around him. While there are valid points to be made on both sides of that discussion, the Blue Jays front office appears poised to ship the 28-year-old out of town. That's not a secret in baseball circles, and Stroman knows exactly what the score is. Continue to Article
