The Detroit Tigers extended the contract of Al Avila, the executive vice president of baseball operations and general manager who is overseeing the rebuilding of the organization. The team announced a multi-year extension but did not reveal the length or financial terms of the deal. The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder JaCoby Jones on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a lower back strain and recalled outfielder Victor Reyes from Triple-A Toledo. Jones left the first game of Wednesday's day-night doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox in the fifth inning with back spasms. Not only were the runs coming in bunches this past weekend at London in a two-game series between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, so were the merchandise sales. Major League Baseball announced Wednesday there were record merchandise sales for one day, and at a single venue, for the series between American League East rivals at London Stadium.
