Chi White Sox
Like everything with the White Sox in 2019, the trade deadline is going to be different. This team might not be threatening for a spot in the postseason come September, but they look like the second best club in an AL Central that has just one really good team, not to mention that the record will look much different than it did during the first two seasons of Rick Hahn's rebuilding effort. Likewise, there has been an abundance of really positive signs for the future of this team: Lucas Giolito's dominance, Tim Anderson's offensive success, Yoan Moncada's bounce back, James McCann's emergence, Eloy Jimenez's recent displays of power and the continued development of guys like Dylan Cease, Luis Robert and Nick Madrigal in the minor leagues. The New York Yankees placed first baseman/designated hitter Kendrys Morales on the 10-day injured list Thursday because of a strained left calf and added two players to the active roster. With left-hander Stephen Tarpley sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday night, the Yankees recalled outfielder Mike Tauchman and left-hander Nestor Cortes Jr. from Triple-A in advance of Thursday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Morales, 35, who was acquired from the Oakland A's on May 14, is batting .194 with two home runs and 12 RBIs this season. Continue to Article

If the 462-foot home run that finally touched down on the stairs leading up to the Fan Deck in center field ends up being the moment when Eloy Jimenez flipped the switch and turned into one of Major League Baseball's great hitters, that will be terrific news for the White Sox and the planned opening of their contention window. In all likelihood, it will be a much more gradual process, Jimenez's elevation from rookie trying to figure out the big leagues to the superstar in the making White Sox fans have been drooling over since he was acquired in the Jose Quintana trade two summers ago. Jimenez, of course, still has the projection of being one of the greats, even if the first two and a half months of his major league career haven't been the Kool-Aid Man crash through the wall that some expected. Like everyone who follows baseball, legendary New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera was shocked to see the news Sunday about David Ortiz being shot in the Dominican Republic. Unlike everyone, Rivera counts Ortiz as a close friend — despite the fact they lived on opposite side of baseball's most famous rivalry for so many years. In an exclusive chat Tuesday with Yahoo Sports, Rivera talked about when he heard the news and his reaction. Continue to Article

This Thursday (June 13), the Chicago White Sox are giving away 10,000 t-shirts to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Disco Demolition Night, Chicago journalist Robert Feder notes. Written on the t-shirt is: “The Night That Records Were Broken.” The shirt is available as part of the team's Free T-Shirt Thursdays promotion. According to Feder, Steve Dahl, the radio jockey who stirred up anti-disco sentiment by destroying records, will throw out the game's honorary first pitch. Continue to Article

David Ortiz was back in Boston on Monday night for medical care, a day after authorities said the former Red Sox slugger affectionately known as Big Papi was ambushed by a gunman at a bar in his native Dominican Republic. Ortiz had been in stable condition in intensive care at a Santo Domingo hospital after doctors removed his gallbladder and part of his intestine, according to his spokesman, Leo Lopez. Ortiz is one of the most beloved figures in sports history in the Dominican Republic and Boston, a fearsome power hitter with a ready smile. Continue to Article

Baseball released an All-Star balloting update Monday, showing that three White Sox position players ranked in the top four in voting for their respective positions: James McCann ranked second at catcher, Jose Abreu ranked third at first base, and Tim Anderson ranked fourth at shortstop. Yoan Moncada was eighth among American League third basemen. As far as the end goal of the White Sox rebuilding effort goes, it's ultimately meaningless how many of their players make the All-Star team. Continue to Article
