As the Blues look to rebound from a 5-4 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday when they continue the series Friday in St. Louis, it's with the confidence that they regrouped from being the league's last-place team when they awoke on Jan. 3 to reach the Western Conference finals -- a journey that includes a head coach firing and reliance upon a rookie goalie to turn the corner. The motivation of knowing they received the short end of the stick when Timo Meier's hand-pass resulted in Erik Karlsson scoring the game-winning goal in Game 3 to give the Sharks a 2-1 edge in the best-of-seven series provides the Blues extra fuel for their underdog tale. Erik Karlsson wasn't going to ask that his goal be overturned. Understandably, nobody on the San Jose Sharks was about to give back the club's controversial game-winning goal Wednesday in a 5-4 overtime road win over the St. Louis Blues. The result gives the Sharks a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference finals. Continue to Article

Erik Karlsson's second goal of the night counted despite an obvious hand-pass seconds earlier, and the visiting San Jose Sharks claimed a 5-4 overtime win over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night to grab a 2-1 lead in the Western Conference finals. Game 4 of the best-of-seven series will be Friday in St. Louis, and rest assured there will be all kinds of chatter about the winning goal before that contest starts. From his knees, San Jose's Timo Meier swatted a bounding puck to teammate Gustav Nyquist in the slot. Continue to Article

St. Louis
After the San Jose Sharks relied on a usual suspect to tie the game, the St. Louis Blues took back momentum with a tiebreaking goal from a most unlikely source. Defenseman Robert Bortuzzo scored his first career postseason goal late in the second period that helped the Blues overcome another big game from San Jose's Logan Couture with a 4-2 victory over the Sharks on Monday night that tied the Western Conference final at one game apiece. ''It's not really my game but it's something that goes in the back of your mind,'' said Bortuzzo, who had scored only 14 goals in 365 regular season and playoff games before breaking through against the Sharks.
