Welcome home, Patrick Marleau. After months of speculation and rumors, the Sharks agreed to bring the veteran forward back to the Bay, general manager Doug Wilson announced Tuesday before the Sharks' game against the Nashville Predators. The deal reportedly is for one year, $700K, per TSN's Pierre LeBrun Marleau was drafted by the Sharks in 1997 and played the first 19 years of his career in teal before leaving for the Toronto Maple Leafs after the 2016-17 season. With the start of the NHL 2019-20 regular season just over 24 hours away, the Washington Capitals have finally chosen their alternate captain to replace the retired Brooks Orpik. Veteran defenseman John Carlson will wear the "A," the Caps announced Tuesday, along with Nicklas Backstrom and captain Alex Ovechkin. Carlson has played 688 games for the Caps, the third most games played among active players on the Capitals' roster, behind Backstrom's 895 and Ovechkin's 1,084, making him the obvious choice for alternate captain.
