There were five home runs, 25 strikeouts, 14 walks, 13 pitchers and just 15 hits. The New York Yankees' 10-4 win over the Minnesota Twins in their AL Division Series opener on Friday was the epitome of what Major League Baseball has evolved into in 2019. A 4-hour, 15-minute meeting between power-packed offenses was dominated by the Three True Outcomes — homers, walks, strikeouts — when the defense is superfluous other than the pitcher and catcher. Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer led the charge on just two days of rest as the Washington Nationals got even in the National League Division Series with a 4-2 victory over the host Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night. Strasburg (1-0) gave up one run over six strong innings, and Scherzer struck out all three batters he faced in the eighth as the Nationals leveled the best-of-five series 1-1. Strasburg retired the first 14 batters he faced after pitching three scoreless innings of relief Tuesday in Washington's NL wild-card victory over Milwaukee. Continue to Article

Minnesota
It's been 15 years since the New York Yankees lost a game in October to the Minnesota Twins, and judging by Game 1 of the American League Division Series, it might be 15 more years before they lose another one. Gleyber Torres was seven years old when the Twins won that one, 2-0 in Game 1 of the 2004 ALDS, starting a record run of playoff losses that stretched to 14 straight, 11 to the Yankees, with Friday's 10-4 Yankees win at a raucous, and at times deafening, Yankee Stadium. It was Torres' two-run double at the end of an epic seven-pitch at-bat in the fifth inning that began the Twins' slide back into that seemingly bottomless abyss, and started the Yankees off on what they hope will culminate in their 28th World Championship, and first since 2009. Minnesota
The New York Yankees have had the Minnesota Twins' number come October and that continued on Friday. In those matchups, New York have always come away with a series – and even wild-card game – win. The Yankees won all four American League Division Series (ALDS) against the Twins and a 2017 wild-card contest. Continue to Article
