Fifty years after 14 black football players were kicked off the University of Wyoming football team for seeking to wear armbands to protest racism, eight of them returned to the Laramie campus to commemorate the anniversary as the school takes another step toward reconciliation. The marker will join an alleyway mural in downtown Laramie that was dedicated last year and cap five days of ceremonies and discussions about the infamous dismissal of all the university's black players in 1969. Johnny Cueto made a masterful return to the mound after a 13-month absence, and the San Francisco Giants narrowly avoided a second straight bullpen meltdown Tuesday night in a 5-4 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. Stephen Vogt had a two-run single and a two-run home run to account for nearly all the San Francisco offense, helping the Giants end a two-game losing streak. Matt Beaty and Corey Seager hit home runs, while Kenta Maeda pitched four strong innings of relief as the Los Angeles Dodgers earned a 5-0 victory Sunday to avoid being swept by the visiting San Francisco Giants. Beaty hit his ninth homer of the season, while Seager delivered his 14th, as the Dodgers reduced their magic number for clinching their seventh consecutive National League West title to two. The earliest the Dodgers can clinch a playoff spot is Tuesday when they open a three-game series at Baltimore. Continue to Article

Andreescu's win over Bencic also meant she became the first Canadian woman to make the U.S. Open final, where she faces Serena Williams, who is chasing a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam single title. Take 5: Kyler, Kliff and the unknown of Week 1 Week 1 of the regular season is thrilling not only because football is back, but also because we finally learn more about the offseason's great unknowns. Chief among this year's mysteries the Arizona Cardinals' all-in bet on the Air Raid, Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray. Continue to Article
