The New York Yankees have certainly battled their fair share of injuries this season -- and Thursday's doubleheader against the Tigers proved to be no exception. Edwin Encarnacion was lifted from the first game of Thursday's twin bill -- after he had slugged a two-run homer off of Matthew Boyd -- with a left oblique strain. Cubs 4, Padres 1 Yu Darvish struck out 14 batters over six shutout innings as Chicago earned a victory in San Diego. Darvish and relievers Kyle Ryan (two in two innings) and Rowan Wick (three in the ninth) combined for 19 strikeouts. Pete Alonso hit two solo shots Monday night to close in on baseball's single-season rookie home run record, and the New York Mets beat the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks 3-1 in the opener of a pivotal four-game series. The Mets (73-70), who began the day four games behind the Chicago Cubs in the race for the second National League wild card, snapped a two-game losing streak.
