LA Angels
The run allowed by Puk came on a solo home run by Kevan Smith, his third of the season, to give the Angels a 6-1 lead headed to the bottom of the seventh. Josh Phegley got the Athletics within three with a two-run homer off Jose Suarez to get the big inning rolling, before the Los Angeles bullpen imploded, permitting a single to Marcus Semien followed by four straight walks, two of which forced in runs. Khris Davis' infield out against the Angels' fourth pitcher of the inning, Luis Garcia, tied the game, and Grossman then greeted Adalberto Mejia with a first-pitch triple over the head of Mike Trout in center field, scoring the go-ahead runs and giving Oakland an 8-6 lead. Kevin Plawecki had an RBI double with two outs in the second inning for the Indians, who have lost five of their last seven games overall and nine of the 16 meetings with Chicago this season. If the Tigers rally to win, Oakland's streak from that stretch will only be considered a seven-gamer. Center fielder Ramon Laureano is expected to come off the injured list for the A's and play in the second game. Continue to Article

Neil Walker had three RBIs and Harold Ramirez homered Thursday as the visiting Miami Marlins erased an early four-run deficit to down the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-7. Isan Diaz and Jorge Alfaro each added a two-run single for the Marlins, who won two of three for their first road series win since winning two of three against the White Sox in Chicago on July 22-24. Sean Murphy rebounded from being called for catcher's interference to homer in his first major league game Wednesday night, and the Oakland Athletics won their second straight game against the visiting Los Angeles Angels, 4-0. Oakland right-hander Tanner Roark continued his impressive form at his new home, tossing 6 2/3 innings of five-hit ball. Jurickson Profar and Marcus Semien also homered for the A's, who have opened a six-game homestand with a pair of wins after completing a seven-game trip last week with a pair of losses.
