Boston second baseman Brock Holt greeted Padres closer Kirby Yates with a home run into the right field seats on the first pitch of the ninth inning Saturday night to snap a tie and give the visiting Red Sox a 5-4 victory over the Padres. The homer, which was just beyond the leap of Padres right fielder Hunter Renfroe, was Holt's third of the season. The win was the Red Sox's second straight in the three-game interleague series. Fan favorite Pablo Sandoval's second run with the San Francisco Giants may unfortunately be coming to a premature close. The club announced on Saturday that the portly third baseman would undergo Tommy John surgery in September, which effectively ends his 2019 season and likely keeps him out for most if not all of 2020. The Giants hold a $555,000 team option for Sandoval in 2020, but given his likely unavailability for the season, he is likely to hit the open market this winter. Continue to Article

Michael Chavis isn't getting a chance to play for the Boston Red Sox during this year's Players Weekend celebration. The talented rookie has been out since August 12 while nursing a sprained AC joint. Ronald Acuna's stolen base on Friday against the Mets punched his ticket into the 30-30 club. Mike Trout of course, who did it as a 20-year-old rookie in 2012.
