Seattle Mariners reliever Chasen Bradford, out since June with an elbow strain, underwent Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss the 2020 season. Bradford, a 30-year-old righthander, pitched in just 12 games for the Mariners in 2019. He posted one save and an ERA of 4.86 in 16 2/3 innings of relief. Continue to Article

Didi Gregorius hit two home runs, including a grand slam, while Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Gleyber Torres also went deep Friday as the visiting New York Yankees took the opener of a showdown series by crushing the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-2. Three of the home runs, including one by Gregorius, came against Dodgers left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu, who entered with a National League-leading 1.64 ERA that increased to 1.95. Continue to Article

Every now and then, though, a brilliant artistic creation with a punchy message will catch our attention and rise above the rest. Continue to Article

Toronto
Since the all-star break - admittedly a bit of arbitrary starting point - he's got an ERA of 6.92 and FIP of 6.37 and a strikeout rate that's plunged from 23.2 percent to 13.7. Considering Thornton's trademark is his high-spin breaking balls, a failure to miss bats of that magnitude is rather jarring. We are talking about just 26 innings here, but there's more than small-sample size weirdness at work here. Continue to Article
