PITCHER It was a viable strategy to pick on Darvish early in the season, but the Cubs' righty has seemingly regained his All-Star (4x) form by allowing seven earned runs with 36 strikeouts across 24 innings over his past four starts. A gem against the Phillies (7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 10 K) last Thursday was particularly impressive. Michael Conforto hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the sixth inning, rookie Pete Alonso added a two-run double in the seventh, and the New York Mets began a pivotal nine-game homestand with a 9-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday. After winning 18 of 23 games while playing several losing teams, the Mets (65-60) began a stretch of 18 straight games against other playoff contenders by improving to 11-1 in their last 12 home games. Conforto snapped a 2-2 tie when he clobbered a 1-2, two-out slider from Shane Bieber (12-6) and hit the ball into the Mets' bullpen beyond the right-center-field fence. Continue to Article

New York Mets right-hander Robert Gsellman has a partially torn lat muscle on his right side putting the rest of the reliever's season in jeopardy. Gsellman was already on the 10-day disabled list with what was believed to be right triceps tightness, but an MRI showed the lat injury. A similar injury to teammate Noah Syndergaard in 2017 cost the right hander four and a half months. Continue to Article

Mike Trout set a career high with his 42nd home run and the Los Angeles Angels won the first game of the doubleheader, 5-1, against the Texas Rangers on Tuesday afternoon at Arlington, Texas. Los Angeles left-hander Andrew Heaney struck out a career-high 14 and didn't walk a batter while winning consecutive starts for the first time since winning five consecutive in 2015.
