A look at what's happening around the majors today: KLUBOT POWERS BACK DOWN Indians ace Corey Kluber has been shut down for two weeks with an abdominal strain, an injury he sustained during his comeback from a broken arm. Kluber was pulled from a minor league start for Triple-A Columbus at Charlotte on Sunday after one inning because of abdominal tightness. Michael Conforto hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the sixth inning, rookie Pete Alonso added a two-run double in the seventh, and the New York Mets began a pivotal nine-game homestand with a 9-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday. After winning 18 of 23 games while playing several losing teams, the Mets (65-60) began a stretch of 18 straight games against other playoff contenders by improving to 11-1 in their last 12 home games. New York Mets right-hander Robert Gsellman has a partially torn lat muscle on his right side putting the rest of the reliever's season in jeopardy. Gsellman was already on the 10-day disabled list with what was believed to be right triceps tightness, but an MRI showed the lat injury. A similar injury to teammate Noah Syndergaard in 2017 cost the right hander four and a half months. Continue to Article
