Anthony Rendon doubled in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning to lead the streaking Washington Nationals to their fifth straight win as they edged past the visiting Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 on Friday night. In a 1-1 game, Trea Turner opened the bottom of the eighth with a walk against Junior Guerra (6-4) and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Adam Eaton. Rendon then lashed his second double of the game, a high ball that a leaping Christian Yelich couldn't catch near the right-field wall, giving Washington its first lead. Continue to Article

Trent Grisham hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to rally the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-5 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins on Wednesday afternoon. The Brewers were trailing 5-3 entering the eighth when Ryan Braun opened the inning by reaching base on a throwing error by Jorge Polanco on a routine grounder to short and he then took third on a ground single to center by Hernan Perez. Grisham, playing in just his 11th major league game, then hit a 403-foot homer into the bleachers in right off Twins reliever Sergio Romo. Continue to Article

Washington Nationals right-hander Max Scherzer, who has been on the 10-day injured list since July 29, is ready to return to the big-league mound again as soon as his team is willing to let him. "I haven't been on the mound for so long that to be able to come in today and have it not get worse, that was the biggest thing," Scherzer told reporters after throwing a two-inning simulated game on Tuesday. Scherzer played catch on Wednesday at Nationals Park and didn't experience any problems following the simulated game. Continue to Article

Washington
Max Scherzer says he's all set to pitch. On the injured list for all but one game over the past five weeks because of trouble with a back muscle, the three-time Cy Young Award winner played catch at Nationals Park on Wednesday, a day after pitching the equivalent of about two innings in a simulated game, and declared himself rarin' to go. Manager Dave Martinez said later he still needed to speak to Scherzer and the team's head trainer to "map out his next steps" before making a decision on his ace's status. Continue to Article
