A quartet of rookies led San Diego to a 7-1 victory over the visiting Colorado Rockies on Friday night, giving the Padres back-to-back victories for the first time since the All-Star break. Right-hander Cal Quantrill (5-3) gave up five hits and no walks with five strikeouts over a career-long, seven-inning outing to earn the win. Smith hit a soft liner to left-center off right-hander Andres Munoz that Padres left fielder Wil Myers made a diving attempt to catch, but the ball dropped just in front of him, with the speedy Smith taking second.
