The MLB has handed out suspensions to eight members of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds after a bench-clearing brawl on Tuesday. The full brawl began at the start of the ninth inning, when Amir Garrett charged the Pirates' dugout, with tensions having been previously sparked in the seventh inning when Keone Kela threw a ball over Derek Dietrich's head. Major league batters are on pace to hit 600 more home runs than in any previous season, nearly 10% above the record set two years ago. There were 1,057 home runs in July, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, breaking the previous July record of 961 in 2004. The Minnesota Twins acquired right-hander Sam Dyson from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for three prospects prior to Wednesday's trade deadline. San Francisco acquired outfielder Jaylin Davis and right-handers Kai-Wei Teng and Prelander Berroa in the deal as Minnesota continues to look to shore up a shaky bullpen.
