Houston
While waiting for their two new sluggers to arrive, the Indians swung for the fences. Roberto Pérez homered twice, Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis each hit a three-run shot and Cleveland capped a power-packed day with a 10-4 win Wednesday night over the Houston Astros, who added another ace before the trade deadline. Perez hit a three-run homer in the second inning off rookie José Urquidy (1-1) and a solo shot in the sixth as the Indians stayed on Minnesota's heels in the AL Central. Continue to Article

Roberto Perez homered twice and drove in four runs as the host Cleveland Indians slugged their way to a 10-4 victory over the Houston Astros on Wednesday. Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis joined Perez in belting three-run homers and Francisco Lindor collected three hits and scored twice for the Indians, who have won 13 of their last 17 games. Yuli Gurriel ripped a three-run double to extend his hitting streak to a career-best 18 contests and Carlos Correa launched a solo homer for the Astros, who saw their three-game winning streak come to a halt. At least, that's how it goes in Toronto as the Blue Jays jettisoned a number of veteran players ahead of the deadline, accelerating the team's much-needed rebuild and putting the last vestiges of the 2015 and 2016 playoff runs behind them. Aaron Sanchez, Joe Biagini and Cal Stevenson were dealt to the Houston Astros in exchange for outfielder Derek Fisher, sending a number of Blue Jays fans into a fit of rage. After Marcus Stroman was sent to the New York Mets for what many considered to be an underwhelming return, the vitriol towards Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins and president Mark Shapiro is at an all-time high. The Tampa Bay Rays acquired first baseman Jesus Aguilar from the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Jake Faria. Aguilar, 29, could fill the Rays' wish for another powerful right-handed bat, although he is hitting just .225 with eight home runs in 94 games this season. Aguilar is a career .256 hitter with 59 home runs -- all of which came in the past three seasons for the Brewers. Continue to Article

Zack Greinke held the New York Yankees to two runs on two hits over five innings on Wednesday, and that was the good news for the Bronx Bombers when it comes to the veteran pitcher. In the closing minutes of the 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, the Houston Astros reportedly acquired Greinke from the Arizona Diamondbacks, the second last-minute pitching pickup that shifts the Astros to the favorites to win the American League over the Yankees. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal was the first to report the Greinke deal. Continue to Article
