Danny Santana highlighted a 10-run explosion in the fifth and sixth innings with a grand slam Thursday night, powering the Texas Rangers to an 11-3 romp over the host Oakland Athletics in the opener of a four-game series. Santana finished with three hits and a career-best six RBIs, while Asdrubal Cabrera also collected three hits, as the Rangers won for just the second time in their last 11 games. Marcus Stroman has built a reputation as a big-game pitcher that wants the ball when the stakes are highest. Former Blue Jays manager John Gibbons handed him the ball in the decisive Game 5 of the NLDS against the Texas Rangers, and Jim Leyland did the same in the final of World Baseball Classic for Team USA in 2017. Texas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo will likely be placed on the 10-day injured list with a possible broken bone in his right wrist. Rangers manager Chris Woodward told reporters that Wednesday's MRI exam was inconclusive and that the team sent Gallo back to Dallas. Kris Bryant and Addison Russell hit solo home runs, and Yu Darvish snapped his drought at Wrigley Field with six scoreless innings in the Chicago Cubs' 5-2 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday afternoon. Darvish (3-4) turned in his second straight outing of two-hit ball over six scoreless innings. Matt Chapman went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and five RBIs as the Oakland Athletics won their fifth consecutive game, defeating the visiting Seattle Mariners 9-2 Tuesday night.
